Holiday sneak peek

I’ve been working like an elf making these gingerbread iPhone magnets:

gingerbread iPhone icons

I tried to take each icon and think of how to represent it with candy and frosting.  Of course, the ‘candy,’ ‘frosting,’ and ‘gingerbread’ are all clay so they won’t attract nibblers.  They won’t be in our store until November 2, so this is just a preview.  I’m also making some game console ornaments for the holidays.

My magnets in action!

One of my first website customers sent me this picture of my magnets making friends with the rest of his magnets.  It’s such a thrill to see them like this.  I’m feeling quite continental.

Huge thanks to Gabriele in Italy.  You made my day!

Something for fanboys (haha)

I just saw this:

bladelessfan

on the Dyson website.  It’s a unique new fan that works without blades.  I could imagine it on my desk; it’s a beautiful accessory.  And I love the sci-fi sounding name: Air Multiplier.  However, it costs $300.  So, as with most new technologies, I can’t afford to be an early adopter.  *sigh*  The wait begins…

Vodka + skull + Dan Aykroyd

My friend just showed me this bottle of vodka.

This is so perfect for Halloween. If you go to their website, you can watch Dan Dykroyd describe how the bottle was inspired by the mystery of the crystal skulls. Almost everything he said made me like it more. Mystery! Day of the Dead! Newfoundland!

It also reminds me of Damien Hirst’s diamond-encrusted skull.

Which is fitting because if you watch the video, it will tell you that they filter the vodka through diamonds. Diamonds!

Speaking of bedazzled skulls, I saw this Hirst diy kit a while ago and thought it was kind of awesome too.

Cupcake overload

Posted in Culmination of civilization

I was just browsing through the Neiman Marcus Christmas book.  In the ridiculous presents section, I saw this:

cupcake_cars

What the hell?  I know the NM Christmas book is famous for showcasing absurdly expensive presents, but what is some rich guy going to do with a $25,000 customized cupcake car?  Even the people in the picture look embarrassed.

I don’t think that NM really expects anyone to buy this.  They just wanted something that would get attention.  And I guess it’s working.

Open for business

Our site went live this weekend!  View it here: bearduckdesigns.com After about a month of obsession, I’m not sure what to do next.  I have some vague ideas for new products, but I’ll have to pry myself away from the computer first.

Change is in the wind

Today, on the first of October, I have moved my blog from blogspot to wordpress.  I didn’t have any problems with blogspot, but with wordpress I have a nice clean URL (bearduckdesigns.com/blog).  And since I don’t have any readers, no one is confused.

Speaking of confusion, I have revamped my banner since the old, springy version seemed kind of inappropriate with the cool crisp weather:

Bear Duck Designs

And now it looks like this:

I should update my Etsy shop too, but that means I would have to change a bunch of product photos.  Perhaps next week.
